WASHINGTON

NIAC Action Executive Director Jamal Abdi issued the following statement after Senator Claire McCaskill (D-MO) announced her support for the Iran nuclear agreement:

"Senator Claire McCaskill's announcement in support of the Iran nuclear deal is another big win for those that want to prevent a nuclear-armed Iran and avert war. With Sen. McCaskill's endorsement, ten out of twelve Democratic Senators on the Senate Armed Services Committee have now come out in support of the deal. Hers was a thoughtful and deliberative decision made on the basis of what is best for U.S. national security and those of America's closest allies.

"As Senator McCaskill notes, the world is united behind this nuclear deal. By rejecting it, the United States risks not just a peaceful way to resolve the nuclear dispute with Iran, but also undermines American leadership on the global stage. By announcing her support for this deal, Senator McCaskill is taking a firm stance in favor of American leadership.

"More than half of the Senate Democratic caucus is now on record in support of the nuclear deal. It is high time for Senate Democrats who remain on the fence to join their colleagues in public support for the President's historic diplomatic achievement."
