Abia Akram

    Abia Akram is a disability rights activist, chief executive of the National Forum of Women with Disabilities, and founding member of the Special Talent Exchange Program (STEP) and Ageing Disability & Diversity Task Force in Pakistan. She is also a trustee for Sightsavers, board member for the Asia Pacific Woman, Law and Development Organization; global chair for the Global Forum on the Leadership of Women and Girls with Disability; and chair of the Asia Pacific Women with Disability Network. Abia has been involved in the disability rights movement since 1997 and aims to give a voice to women and girls with disabilities. Since then, she has been instrumental in leading the disability youth and women’s movement in Pakistan and the wider Asia-Pacific region. She was one of the BBC’s top 100 women of 2021. Abia Akram is global ambassador for the Equal World ‘Promise in Peril’ campaign.
