Bewailing that "war crimes are happening right now," profane fake newscaster Jonathan Pie - aka actor Tom Walker - has lambasted a "gutless" UK, and by extension many Western democracies, for enabling Putin's atrocities in Ukraine by long doing business with him - in the U.K.'s case, becoming the "money laundering capitol of the world" for millionaire Russian oligarchs. "Shame on him, but shame on us," he says, charging Putin's "using our own greed against us" has warped our vaunted "freedom from tyranny" into "a thin veneer, behind which is hidden all the money we can stuff in our pockets."
“While the U.S. and the E.U. have come down hard on Russian oligarchs, Britain has not, says @JonathanPieNews, a fictional newscaster. “Because the dreadful, terrifying truth is stronger sanctions against Putin are in danger of hurting us more than him.” https://t.co/8JBC3lueAv”— New York Times Opinion (@New York Times Opinion) 1647009900
