NARAL Pro-Choice America & Bridge Project Report: Susan B. Anthony List's Anti-Choice Machine Ramps Up 2014 Plans

Today, NARAL Pro-Choice America and Bridge Project have partnered to release a new report detailing the truth behind the deceptively named Susan B. Anthony (SBA) List in order to reveal the group's extreme agenda and political efforts ahead of the 2014 election cycle.

WASHINGTON

Today, NARAL Pro-Choice America and Bridge Project have partnered to release a new report detailing the truth behind the deceptively named Susan B. Anthony (SBA) List in order to reveal the group's extreme agenda and political efforts ahead of the 2014 election cycle.

The report delves into the radical political positions held by the organization's leadership and details the anti-woman candidates they have supported and financed. It also details the SBA List's out-of-touch legislative and policy agenda intended to restrict access to vital health care for women across the country.

"SBA List president, Marjorie Dannenfelser, likes to say that she wants her organization to be the NRA of the anti-choice movement," said Ilyse Hogue, president of NARAL Pro-Choice America. "And we couldn't agree more that they similarly represent extreme politics out of step with the majority of Americans. This report is intended to expose their true agenda to do away with abortion, contraception, and even sex outside of reproduction. Americans should have all the information when the SBA List throws their support behind a Ken Cuccinelli in Virginia or other anti-choice candidates throughout the 2014 cycle."

"I find it hard to believe that the real Susan B. Anthony would appreciate her name being used by an organization so determined to take away a woman's right to make her own decisions," said Eddie Vale, vice president of Bridge Project. "The public deserves to know the radical policies, antiquated worldview, and extreme candidates that SBA List supports."

NARAL Pro-Choice America and Bridge Project have uncovered materials indicating the SBA List's intention to use the 2013 Virginia gubernatorial race as a "proving ground" for its electoral strategies to create an anti-choice "political machine" akin to the National Rifle Association. After standing beside Todd "legitimate rape" Akin and Richard "something God intended" Mourdock in 2012, SBA List has offered its financial support to Ken Cuccinelli in 2013. Cuccinelli has co-sponsored legislation to ban many common forms of birth control and to defund Planned Parenthood, and along with Akin and Mourdock, represents the type of anti-choice candidates SBA List would hope to elect in 2014.

NARAL Pro-Choice America is made up of pro-choice women and men across the United States. Together, we organize, educate and use the political process to protect a woman's right to choose.

Bridge Project is a 501(c)(4) organization dedicated to exposing the conservative movement's dishonest tactics, dismantling its extreme ideology, and shining light on the moneyed special interests that fund it.

For over 50 years, Reproductive Freedom for All (formerly NARAL Pro-Choice America) has fought to protect and advance reproductive freedom at the federal and state levels—including access to abortion care, birth control, pregnancy and post-partum care, and paid family leave—for everybody. Reproductive Freedom for All is powered by its more than 4 million members from every state and congressional district in the country, representing the 8 in 10 Americans who support legal abortion.
