WASHINGTON

The Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), the nation's largest Muslim civil rights and advocacy organization, today decried the "un-American" statements by a growing number of Republican governors in opposition to the acceptance of Syrian refugees into their states.

In a statement, CAIR said:

Governors who reject those fleeing war and persecution abandon our ideals and instead project our fears to the world."

CAIR is America's largest Muslim civil liberties and advocacy organization. Its mission is to enhance the understanding of Islam, encourage dialogue, protect civil liberties, empower American Muslims, and build coalitions that promote justice and mutual understanding.
