On Choice of White Supremacist, Anti-Semitic, Islamophobe Stephen Bannon as Chief Strategist

On Sunday November 13, President-elect Donald Trump announced Stephen Bannon, executive chairman of Breitbart News as his choice for chief strategist in the White House. Jewish Voice for Peace offers the following statement for publication:

Rabbi Alissa Wise, Jewish Voice for Peace Deputy Director:
In President-elect Donald Trump's choice of Steve Bannon--a leading white nationalist--as Chief Strategist, we are seeing a confirmation of exactly what Trump promised throughout his campaign: the open endorsement of racism, xenophobia, Islamophobia and antisemitism. From our work on Israel, we are familiar with the deepening violence, hatred and repression that comes from a far right government. We can not sit by and watch that take place here--this is not a time for business as usual. People and organizations should refuse to cooperate with policies by the Trump Administration that are racist, sexist, Islamophobic, anti-semitic, and/or infringe on civil liberties. As Jewish Voice for Peace, our response is to deepen our commitment to organizing a grassroots movement that will ensure all people's rights and safety are protected.
