WASHINGTON

Today, Donald Trump released a new "skinny budget" proposal for consideration in Congress. In response, Janet Redman, U.S. Policy Director of Oil Change International released the following statement:

"Trump's skinny budget is lean for Americans, but fat for the oil, gas, and coal industry. President Obama called for the elimination of taxpayer handouts to the fossil fuel industry in each of his eight presidential budgets. Trump's budget shortchanges the American people while continuing to hand out billions of dollars in government subsidies to fossil fuel companies."

"Obama proposed the elimination of tax breaks for big oil, gas and coal that would have saved American taxpayers $38 billion over the next 10 years. Cutting these tax preferences in 2018 would save Americans $4.2 billion this year alone."

"Instead, Trump's budget slashes $4.2 billion for programs that help low-income families afford heating, provide services for disabled Americans, and deliver food to senior citizens through initiatives like Meals on Wheels."

"Trump's budget feeds the fossil fuel industry, and starves critical programs that protect families, public health and our environment."

Oil Change International is a research, communications, and advocacy organization focused on exposing the true costs of fossil fuels and facilitating the ongoing transition to clean energy.
