Patriotic Millionaire on Dems Anti-Corruption "Better Deal" Platform: A Good Start

"The American people did not vote to allow government officials to get rich by selling access to government to the highest bidders"

WASHINGTON

This afternoon, following the release of the Democratic party's anti-corruption plank of their "A Better Deal" platform, the Chair of the Patriotic Millionaires and former managing director at BlackRock, Inc., Morris Pearl released the following statement:

"The anti-corruption proposals introduced by the Democratic party this afternoon are a good start towards curbing the rampant abuse of a lax campaign finance system and a pay-for-play Washington culture. But opposing corruption shouldn't need to be a partisan platform - every lawmaker from both sides of the aisle should have an equal dedication to cleaning up our government. The American people did not vote to allow government officials to get rich by selling access to government to the highest bidders. The fact that these proposals are even necessary shows just how low the standards for moral authority in Washington have sunk in the last two years."

The Patriotic Millionaires is a group of high-net worth Americans who share a profound concern about the destabilizing level of inequality in America. Our work centers on the two things that matter most in a capitalist democracy: power and money. Our goal is to ensure that the country's political economy is structured to meet the needs of regular Americans, rather than just millionaires. We focus on three "first" principles: a highly progressive tax system, a livable minimum wage, and equal political representation for all citizens.
