WASHINGTON

Today, the U.S. House of Representatives passed the fiscal year 2019 Interior-Environment Appropriations bill, H.R. 6147, loaded with anti-environmental policy riders. Christy Leavitt, Environment America's environmental defense campaign director, issued the following statement:

"The U.S. House voted for an Interior-Environment spending bill that inadequately funds critical environmental and public health programs and is packed with anti-environmental provisions.

"The bill cuts funding for the Environmental Protection Agency, the Land and Water Conservation Fund and the Endangered Species Act. To make things worse, the bill harms the environment and public health by limiting federal action on climate change, thwarting the EPA's efforts to clean up the Chesapeake Bay and repealing the Clean Water Rule, which restored federal protections for half of the nation's streams.

"We applaud members of Congress who stood up for children's health and the outdoors by opposing this bill, and we're disappointed in those who voted against our environment and public health. We call on the Senate to reject the House bill and pass an Interior-Environment spending bill that fully funds programs to protect our families, climate, water and lands and is free of anti-environmental riders."
