WASHINGTON

Vote Climate U.S. PAC announces our 2020 U.S. Senate priority candidates, those races where we will have the biggest, national impact, increasing our voting bloc and leadership for climate-action. This is the first time we focused exclusively on the U.S. Senate, when choosing our priorities. Retaking the U.S. Senate with climate-action candidates is the most important goal, if we are to pass meaningful climate legislation. All of our 2020 priorities are U.S. Senate candidates and all challenging powerful incumbents.

Below are our 2020 U.S. Senate priority candidates and their climate calculations, as determined by our scoring criteria for incumbents on: position, votes, leadership and putting a fee on carbon; and scoring criteria for challengers on: position and putting a fee on carbon.

Karyn Strickler, president said, "Vote Climate U.S. PAC's priority candidates highlight races in critical, swing states that could go either way, where there is a sharp distinction in the climate calculation between candidates. Victories in these races would mean that climate-action candidates would dominate the U.S. Senate. First we must win, and these are tough races, attempting to unseat powerful incumbents. Americans can use our national, climate change voter's guide to choose climate-action candidates in their own state and congressional district first. But to have a broader impact, voters can donate, volunteer or spread the word on social media for these priority candidates who could change the politics of climate change."

"Whether you're voting by mail or in-person, Vote Climate U.S. PAC's voter's guide makes it simple for every American to vote climate. Just go to our voter's guide page. Click your state on the map, enter your zip code or your candidate's last name. Find your district and vote for the candidate with the highest climate calculation. Be sure to click the green + button to the left of the candidate's name for detailed information from our research," said Strickler.

Our "Climate Rankings" tab on our website, looks at the big picture of American politics and climate change by analyzing our research data to provide a breakdown of:

  • Climate Heroes: Incumbents and Challengers Who Rated 100%
  • Climate Zeroes: Incumbents and Challengers Who Rated 0 %
  • Best to Worst Individual Incumbents and Challengers on Climate Change
  • Overall Average Climate Comparisons by Political Party
  • Overall Average Climate Comparisons by Region and Party.

Vote Climate U.S. PAC works to elect candidates to get off fossil fuels, transition to clean, renewable, energy and reduce carbon pollution by putting a fee on carbon, in order to slow climate change and related weather extremes.
