People's Action Health Care for All Campaign Director Connie Huynh today released the following statement in response to recent anti-Asian, gendered violence committed in Georgia:

"I am sick with rage and sadness. A 21-year-old white man murdered eight people yesterday, six of them Asian women. My heart breaks for all the victims but especially these women, their families, and their communities who have faced a growing onslaught of hatred in the past year.

WASHINGTON

People's Action Health Care for All Campaign Director Connie Huynh today released the following statement in response to recent anti-Asian, gendered violence committed in Georgia:

"I am sick with rage and sadness. A 21-year-old white man murdered eight people yesterday, six of them Asian women. My heart breaks for all the victims but especially these women, their families, and their communities who have faced a growing onslaught of hatred in the past year.

"While this statement comes right after a singular incident, it is responding to years of racism exacerbated under the Trump regime, in addition to generations of policies, pushed by both Republicans and Democrats, that hurt women all over the world, built up the American empire, and were fed to its war machine. We need our government to fight for all of us and prove that Asian lives, abroad and at home, are not disposable.

"Make no mistake that this is an issue of male domination and white supremacy. Georgia officials are legitimizing mass murder as an expression of 'sex addiction' to hide the fact that the obsession with Asian, Pacific Islander, and immigrant women is a political issue that can be fatal. Likely low-waged working class immigrant women were sacrificed to protect the power of the ruling class.

"This is who we have been, but it does not have to be who we become. People's Action condemns any calls for increased policing and surveillance. We stand in solidarity with all those grieving today."

People's Action builds the power of poor and working people, in rural, suburban, and urban areas to win change through issue campaigns and elections.
