Following Mitch McConnell's Filibuster of the For the People Act, Stand Up America Renews Its Commitment to Passing Voting Rights Legislation

WASHINGTON

Tonight, after Senate Republicans used the filibuster to prevent the For the People Act from being considered on the floor of the Senate, Stand Up America Founder and President Sean Eldridge released the following statement:

"Tonight, Senate Republicans stood with voter suppression instead of protecting our freedom to vote. But this fight is far from over."

"We will not take no for an answer when our freedom to vote is at stake--and Senate Democrats shouldn't either. The Jim Crow filibuster is no excuse for inaction when access to the ballot box for millions of Americans is on the line."

"It's going to be a long, hot summer for any member of the Senate who doesn't do everything in their power to protect our freedom to vote. They will be hearing from us in the days ahead in their inboxes, on the phones, and at rallies across the country."

So far this year, Stand Up America members have made over 35,000 constituent calls and sent 40,000 emails demanding their senators pass the For the People Act. In the days ahead, Stand Up America members will mobilize across the country at Deadline for Democracy events, in partnership with Indivisible and dozens of other organizations committed to protecting the freedom to vote.

Stand Up America is a progressive advocacy organization with over two million community members across the country. Focused on grassroots advocacy to strengthen our democracy and oppose Trump's corrupt agenda, Stand Up America has driven over 600,000 phone calls to Congress and mobilized tens of thousands of protestors across the country.
