Living United for Change in Arizona (LUCHA), Stand Up America Tell Sinema: If You Turn Your Back On Us, We Will Turn Our Backs On You

WASHINGTON

Today, Co-Executive Director of Living United for Change in Arizona (LUCHA) Alejandra Gomez and Executive Director of Stand Up America Christina Harvey jointly released the following statement:

Republicans in Arizona's state legislature are on the precipice of introducing several new bills aimed at making it more difficult for Arizonans--especially Black and brown folks--to exercise their freedom to vote. Against this backdrop of increasing voter suppression in her home state, Senator Sinema has spent her energy shedding crocodile tears on the floor of the Senate, being a constant source of opposition to critical reform, and sending hollow tweets about Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. instead of supporting changes to the Senate rules that would allow the Democratic majority to protect and strengthen voting rights.

"Enough is enough. If Sen. Sinema turns her back on the Arizonans fighting to protect the freedom to vote in Arizona and across the country, if she decides to embrace the likes of George Wallace and turn her back to the Black and brown organizers who delivered her Senate victory for her, then we will turn our backs on her, too."
