SUA Condemns Senate GOP For Bulldozing Through Illegitimate SCOTUS Confirmation Process Amid Trump's COVID-19 Outbreak

WASHINGTON

With Mitch McConnell set on continuing his efforts to push a right-wing SCOTUS nominee through the Senate amid a COVID-19 outbreak, Stand Up America Founder and President Sean Eldridge released the following statement:

"The president is in the hospital and at least three Republican senators are infected. Yet, Mitch McConnell is still trying to pack the Supreme Court with another right-wing justice through an illegitimate nomination process--even if it risks exposing those within the highest levels of our government and countless others to a deadly virus.

"Let's be clear: McConnell is trying to cement an ultra-conservative majority on the Court to overturn the Affordable Care Act in the middle of a pandemic. But if this outbreak is dangerous enough for McConnell to recess the Senate for two weeks, then it's clear that the Senate cannot safely proceed with holding hearings on Trump's Supreme Court nominee.

"McConnell must stop bulldozing Trump's nominee through this illegitimate process, prioritize the health and safety of lawmakers and their staff by immediately cancelling the confirmation hearings, and follow the House's lead in passing legislation that actually helps the country recover from this crisis."
