President Obama's Address at Climate Summit Promises More of the Same

WASHINGTON

Wenonah Hauter, Executive Director of Food & Water Watch, issued the following statement in response to President Obama's speech at the United Nations Climate Summit, and the White House's announcement of the UN Oil and Gas Methane Partnership:

"President Obama's executive order today, that hinges on the voluntary initiative, the Oil and Gas Methane Partnership, is more evidence that his administration is not serious about reducing methane emissions from the oil and gas sector. One does not solve the greatest environmental crisis in our lifetime with half measures and by running interference for the petroleum industry.

Until the administration commits the nation's resources to creating an energy future, based on a real transition to renewable energy and energy efficiency, and until it stops looking to Wall Street and the energy industry to lead on climate, we will continue down the path to more climate chaos."

Food & Water Watch mobilizes regular people to build political power to move bold and uncompromised solutions to the most pressing food, water, and climate problems of our time. We work to protect people's health, communities, and democracy from the growing destructive power of the most powerful economic interests.
